Anonymous begins ‘war’ on ISIS by leaking alleged members’ personal information

The international hacking collective Anonymous has begun posting alleged personal information of suspected ISIS extremists. This comes just a few days after Anonymous declared “war” on ISIS, after the terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the deadly attacks in Paris last weekend.

U.S. Indicts Four Members of China’s People’s Liberation Army on Nine Counts Related to Equifax Breach

Following a federal grand jury in Atlanta returning a nine-count indictment last week, the Justice Department indicted four members of China’s People’s Liberation Army have on charges of hacking into credit rating agency Equifax and plundering sensitive data on nearly 150 million Americans as part of a massive heist that also stole trade secrets from the credit reporting agency. Equifax agreed to a $700 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission to compensate victims. However, a cash payout of $125 per consumer was diminished substantially due to the volume of consumers looking to redeem the offer. FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich said the data could be used to target U.S. officials for counterintelligence purposes, although he conceded the bureau has no evidence that this has occurred.

@FBI: A federal grand jury has indicted four members of the Chinese People's Liberation Army for allegedly hacking into the computer systems of a credit reporting agency and stealing the personal data of 145 million Americans. http://ow.ly/YWCk50yikPk
@FBI: Wu Zhiyong, Wang Qian, Xu Ke, and Liu Lei face charges of computer fraud, economic espionage, and wire fraud for their role in one of the largest thefts of personally identifiable information by state-sponsored hackers ever recorded. http://ow.ly/QnOk30qgyCG

@auburnosint: Significant move by DOJ. Expect this approach to become more common. This restricts the indicted the ability to travel freely and begins the financial leverage on associated companies that will be brought to bear in coming weeks and months.
@dalperovitch: Great work by @FBI and @TheJusticeDept on this investigation!
@appsecbloke: So, finally we learn who the @Equifax popping is attributed to and like no one is at all surprised. Or cares, because the attribution for not preventing it remains with Equifax.
@kimzetter: The timing of this makes me wonder if DoJ intentionally withheld going public with the indictment until after Equifax reached its settlement agreement https://ftc.gov/enforcement/ca
@zackwhittaker: Equifax statement. (It would've been nice had Equifax at least acknowledged its own massive fuckups that led to the breach in the first place.) A House report in 2018 that the breach was "entirely preventable" had Equifax bothered to patch its systems. https://tcrn.ch/2zPkPqI
@rayRedacted: I went on the record in September 2017, January 2018, and February 2019 that Equifax was breached by China. According to the DoJ, we now know that this was correct.
@alfredwkng: In a statement, Equifax's CEO said that it was "increasingly difficult" to protect against nation-state hackers. Just a reminder that Equifax's hack happened because of a months-old vulnerability that it failed to patch, not a sophisticated 0-day:
