Threat ‘Combatting’ Start-Up Trinity Cyber Emerges From Stealth Mode With $23 Million in Funding, Tom Bossert Joins Management Team

Bowie, Maryland-based “threat combatting” start-up Trinity Cyber emerged from stealth with $23 million in venture capital in a funding round led by Intel Capital and other “top institutional investors.” The company also announced that in addition to CEO Steve Ryan and President Marie “Neill” Sciarrone, former Homeland Security Advisor and U.S. cybersecurity chief Tom Bossert has joined the management team. Trinity Cyber’s software-as-a-service solution sits between a client’s network and the outside world, monitoring data packets with a recursive scan engine that runs on remote hardware. When it detects a potential intrusion or breach, it alerts IT administrators and actively counters the attack in one of several ways in order to prevent compromise.

Cybereason Raises $200 Million in Latest Round, Attains Unicorn Status With Valuation of $1 Billion or More

Tel Aviv and Boston-based cybersecurity platform provider Cybereason announced it has raised $200 million in investments and commitments from Softbank and its affiliates, bringing the start-up’s total funding raised to date to $400 million and pushing it into the ranks of a unicorn, a venture-backed business valued at $1 billion or more by its investors. Cybereason’s main technology relies on statistical models of organizations and sophisticated efforts to detect and stop anomalous behavior by users or intruders.

New York and Tel Aviv-based cybersecurity startup Axonius has raised $20 million in Series B funding led by OpenView, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, YL Ventures, Vertex, WTI, and Emerge, bringing its total funding to $37 million following a $13 million Series A raise in February. Axonius offers an end-to-end device management platform. Its agentless solution aims to streamline asset management and spotlight coverage gaps by automatically validating and enforcing security policies.

Google Releases Open Source Multi-Party Computation Tool, Private Join and Compute, to Enable Study of Combined Data Sets Without Jeopardizing Individual Privacy

Google has open sourced a new secure multi-party computation (MPC) tool called Private Join and Compute designed to help organizations work together with confidential data sets. Private Join and Compute augments a cryptographic protocol known as private set intersection (PSI) to help organizations work together with confidential data sets while raising the bar for privacy. The goal is to allow combinations of private data sets from independent parties to be studied in a combined way to draw broader, useful conclusions in public policy, healthcare, car safety standards and more without jeopardizing the privacy of individuals in the data sets.

Identity-as-a-Service Startup Auth0 Raises $103 Million in Series E Round, Cash Infusion Boosts Valuation to $1 Billion

Bellevue, Washington-based identity-as-a-service startup Auth0 announced that it has secured $103 million in series E financing led by Sapphire Ventures, with participation from existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners, K9 Ventures, Trinity Ventures, Meritech Capital, Telstra Ventures, and World Innovation Lab. This latest round values Auth0 at $1 billion, and it brings its total capital raised to about $210 million. Auth0’s identity platform suite, which can be deployed in the cloud or on-premises, supports single sign-on (SSO) through a universal flow that directs users to a centralized authorization server.
